Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed on the need to de-escalate tensions and prioritize diplomacy in addressing regional and international issues during talks in Putrajaya on Saturday, 10 October. Speaking at a joint press conference during his state visit to Malaysia, El-Sisi said the approach would contribute to achieving regional peace and stability. The two leaders announced the elevation of bilateral relations between Egypt and Malaysia to a strategic partnership in a joint statement issued on Saturday, according to Malaysia’s national news agency, Bernama. They also witnessed the exchange of four memoranda of understanding covering women’s empowerment, higher education, tourism and investment. The Egyptian president expressed Egypt’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Malaysia across various fields. He pointed to cooperation in energy and renewable energy, manufacturing, electronics, agriculture and food industries. Two Egyptians Injured in Attack on Riyadh Airport

Two Egyptian nationals were among eight people injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday, 7 October. The figures come from a statement by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The injured were five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents and one Pakistani resident, with injuries ranging from minor to critical, GACA said. A Sudanese resident was killed in the attack. The Riyadh attack was one of two that GACA reported on Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 and 7 October. An attack on Abha International Airport on Tuesday killed two female residents, one Moroccan and one Algerian. It also injured 28 people, including Saudi citizens, a Bangladeshi resident and a Filipino resident. The two attacks left three people dead and 36 injured, according to GACA. The authority said all the injured were taken to hospital for treatment and that the attacks caused some property damage.
