‘Why We Can’t Sit Still’ Egyptians Reflect on Toxic Productivity

By the time Nourhan El-Sayed sits down to watch television on a weekday afternoon, her inner voice starts tormenting her. It already speaks to her as she settles into the couch, before she turns on the TV, or has a chance to exhale. The voice reminds her that she could be answering emails instead. “It’s this tight feeling in my chest,” El-Sayed, 29, a marketing manager in Cairo, told Egyptian Streets. “Like I’m falling behind in a race I didn’t agree to run.” El-Sayed is not alone in that race, and she did not choose to enter it.  Across offices, construction sites and bedrooms, an almost invisible affliction has taken hold of many people — one with no diagnosis, no straightforward cause and no obvious cure.  Harvard Health Publishing described the affliction in 2024 as “toxic productivity,” which is an obsessive preoccupation with being productive at all costs, reflecting a mindset that prioritizes the to-do list over a person’s mental or physical health. EgyptAir Expands Cairo-Barcelona Service to Seven Weekly Flights
Source: https://egyptianstreets.com/feed/

EgyptAir is now operating seven weekly flights between Cairo and Barcelona, expanding its air connection between Egypt and Spain, the national carrier announced on Monday, 14 September. The airline said the route is part of its partnership with FC Barcelona, under which EgyptAir serves as the club’s Global Airline Partner. EgyptAir also highlighted its Barcelona-Luxor service, which operates every Saturday, connecting the Spanish city directly with one of Egypt’s major tourism destinations. The announcement comes shortly after EgyptAir and FC Barcelona signed a three-season partnership on 26 August 2026, covering the 2026/27 through 2028/29 seasons. Under the agreement, EgyptAir became FC Barcelona’s Global Partner and the club’s exclusive official airline for its men’s football, basketball, and handball teams. The partnership includes EgyptAir branding on the FC Barcelona handball team’s shirts during official matches and forms part of the airline’s efforts to expand its international presence. The Cairo-Barcelona service provides a direct connection between the two cities and is part of EgyptAir’s wider network linking Egypt with destinations across Europe and beyond.
