The Horror of Being a Woman Expressed in Egyptian Art
Source: https://egyptianstreets.com/feed/

Is the devil a woman? This was a question that often seemed to permeate some of the earliest Western and Egyptian films, reflecting the misogynistic anxieties surrounding a woman’s power in society and the things that societies have historically tried to control: female sexuality, independence, desire, and anger. In 1972, an Egyptian film was released titled Al Shaytan Imra’a (The Devil is a Woman, 1972), a title that itself speaks to the long-standing association between women, sexuality, and danger. Horror has become a medium through which filmmakers can illustrate what happens when women become monsters, and how their monstrosity can be read as a form of revenge for what they have been subjected to. Feminist interpretations reverse the traditional ideaContinue reading "The Horror of Being a Woman Expressed in Egyptian Art"

A key message from Putin was Russia’s willingness to take Egypt’s views into consideration when shaping its policies.  “We take Egypt’s stance into account,” Putin said, underscoring the importance Moscow places on its relationship with Cairo. The meeting comes as both countries continue to strengthen their cooperation despite wider international tensions. For Russia, Egypt remains an important partner in the Middle East and Africa, while Cairo has maintained working relations with Moscow alongside its ties with other major global powers. A Strategic Partnership Russia and Egypt have described their relationship as a comprehensive strategic partnership, with cooperation extending across several major sectors.Continue reading "Putin Calls Egypt a ‘Long-Standing and Reliable Friend’"
