Russian President Vladimir Putin has highlighted the close relationship between Russia and Egypt on Friday, 11 September, describing Egypt as a “long-standing and reliable friend” during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The meeting between the two leaders focused on the growing partnership between Russia and Egypt, including trade and major joint projects. Putin said Moscow was pleased with the progress in bilateral relations and pointed to continued growth in trade between the two countries. A key message from Putin was Russia’s willingness to take Egypt’s views into consideration when shaping its policies. “We take Egypt’s stance into account,” Putin said, underscoring the importance Moscow places on its relationship with Cairo. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Friday, 11 September, to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, according to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency. The summit, hosted by India on 12 and 13 September, will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries to discuss economic cooperation and a range of regional and international issues. Egypt’s participation marks its third consecutive BRICS summit since joining the bloc in January 2024. El-Sisi is scheduled to deliver Egypt’s address during the closed session of BRICS leaders on 12 September, before speaking at the expanded session on 13 September alongside member states and partner countries. He is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with BRICS leaders and senior officials from international organizations on the sidelines of the summit. BRICS is an international grouping of emerging economies that was originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
