Egyptian Pilgrims Among Dead and Injured in Saudi Bus Crash

Egypt has dispatched a legal team to Saudi Arabia to follow up on a bus crash that killed two Egyptian Umrah pilgrims and injured 25 others near Al-Jumum, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Sunday, 6 September. The bus was travelling from Medina to Mecca on Saturday evening when the accident occurred. It was carrying 47 Egyptian pilgrims travelling with a private tourism company. Seven of the injured remain in intensive care, while the others were treated and discharged from hospitals before being accommodated at their hotels in Mecca. The injuries range from minor to moderate, according to the ministry. Following the accident, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty directed the Egyptian Consulate in Jeddah to provide the affected pilgrims with consular and legal assistance and to coordinate with Saudi authorities investigating the cause of the crash. The consulate dispatched a delegation to the accident site and hospitals to check on the injured, help them contact their families in Egypt, and coordinate burial procedures for the two deceased pilgrims. EgyptAir Launches New Direct Route Between Cairo and Zanzibar

EgyptAir has launched its first direct flight between Cairo International Airport and Zanzibar, Tanzania, according to a statement by the national carrier on Saturday, 5 September. The new route will operate twice a week on Fridays and Sundays, using EgyptAir’s Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. The inaugural flight recorded a load factor of more than 90 percent, according to the airline. The route connects Cairo with Zanzibar, a popular tourist destination in East Africa, while expanding EgyptAir’s network across the African continent. Ahmed Adel, Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, said the new route is part of the airline’s plans to expand its presence in Africa and connect Egypt with strategically important destinations across the continent. He added that the expansion is intended to support tourism and investment ties between Egypt and other African countries while offering passengers more direct travel options. Mohamed Alian, Chairman of EgyptAir Airlines, said the airline introduced special fares in Economy and Business Class to mark the launch of the new route. Tickets for the Cairo-Zanzibar route are available through EgyptAir’s website, its offices worldwide, and travel agents.
